Music Night at the Capitol

Hawai‘i lawmakers and support services staff took a brief break from their legislative duties to introduce measures of a different type to the State Capitol – acoustic and acapella melodies.

Senate and House members and staff, as well as some members of state departments, the media and local non-profit organizations, took to the Capitol auditorium stage Monday night to share laughter and perform songs from a variety of musical genre and cultures. Crowd favorites included “Rambling Rose” by “Aunty” Ola Kakalia (Sen. Ihara’s Office), “Take it Easy” by the Capitol All-Stars, featuring Sen. Russell Ruderman, Rod Maile (Hawai‘i Judiciary), Michael Leong (Rep. Hashem’s Office), Kanani Kawika (Sen. Kouchi’s Office), Jeff Mikulina (Sierra Club) and Issac Moriwaki (Earth Justice), and “Never, Never, Never” by Del Tunupopo (Senate Sergeant at Arms).

The “Open Mic Night at the Capitol” was coordinated by Senator Russell Ruderman (Dist. 2 – Puna, Ka‘u) on March 13th, 2018.
